The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when the production volume increased by 35% against the previous year. In 2022, approx. X units of hair curlers and curling tongs were exported in the CIS; waning by -13.2% compared with 2021 figures. Overall, exports, however, showed strong growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 68%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, hair curler exports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, enjoyed a remarkable increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when exports increased by 40% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Belarus (X units) and Russia (X units) dominates exports structure, together committing 96% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +51.6%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest hair curler supplier in the CIS, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 17% share of total exports.

In Russia, hair curler exports expanded at an average annual rate of +7.3% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+23.2% per year) and Kazakhstan (+51.1% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, rising by 16% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a noticeable curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 19%. Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +43.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 46%. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, hair curler imports declined dramatically to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +53.7% against 2019 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 58% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell markedly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the key importing country with an import of about X units, which accounted for 71% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units) and Belarus (X units), together constituting a 20% share of total imports. Azerbaijan (X units) and Kyrgyzstan (X units) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of hair curlers and curling tongs. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+53.6%), Kyrgyzstan (+38.3%), Kazakhstan (+23.7%) and Belarus (+7.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +53.6% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan (+12 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.6 p.p.), Belarus (+2.3 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -21.4% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hair curlers and curling tongs in the CIS, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 3.7% share.

In Russia, hair curler imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+17.7% per year) and Belarus (-1.3% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, with a decrease of -3.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
