Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a noticeable reduction. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 44% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative exports declined to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when exports increased by 87%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then fell modestly in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the key exporter of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons in the CIS, constituting 99% of total export.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons exports, with a CAGR of -2.4% from 2012 to 2022. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest halogenated hydrocarbon derivative supplier in the CIS.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 21% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded resilient growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 when the export price increased by 96%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

In 2022, purchases abroad of halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons was finally on the rise to reach X tons for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 34%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, halogenated hydrocarbon derivative imports rose to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 37%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 80% of total imports in 2022. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 6.7% share, followed by Uzbekistan (6.4%). Belarus (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -1.3% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+20.5%), Kyrgyzstan (+17.8%) and Kazakhstan (+10.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +20.5% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-6.1%) and Belarus (-6.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+6.4 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+4.4 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by -2.4% and -7.9% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported halogenated derivatives of hydrocarbons in the CIS, comprising 79% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 5% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+8.8% per year) and Uzbekistan (+24.5% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, dropping by -5% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 22%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+19.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
