Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 287% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, non-electric motor handtools exports rose to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, enjoyed prominent growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 60%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X units, which reached 71% of total exports. Belarus (X units) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (5.8%).

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +28.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+69.6%) and Belarus (+15.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +69.6% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Kazakhstan increased by +19 and +5.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 96% of total exports.

Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +68.6%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, picking up by 5.3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, faced a deep setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 140% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per unit in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per unit), while Belarus ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-0.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

Non-electric motor handtools imports reduced remarkably to X units in 2022, which is down by -18.1% compared with the previous year. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +17.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 55%. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2021, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, non-electric motor handtools imports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. In general, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 59%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was near 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), making up a 5.7% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X units), Azerbaijan (X units) and Moldova (X units) - together made up 7.2% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to non-electric motor handtools imports into Russia stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Moldova (+31.7%), Kazakhstan (+20.4%), Belarus (+5.6%) and Azerbaijan (+4.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.7% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan (+4.4 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -7.7% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported handtools, hydraulic or with a self-contained non-electric motor in the CIS, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 6% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 5.6% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -1.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-1.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (+8.7% per year).

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Azerbaijan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
