In 2022, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of hemp tow, when their volume decreased by -40.1% to X tons. Overall, exports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2015 with an increase of 6,656%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2021, and then reduced sharply in the following year.
In value terms, hemp tow exports dropped remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 2,435% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then reduced notably in the following year.
Exports by Country
The biggest shipments were from Russia (X tons), together finishing at 98% of total export.
Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hemp tow exports, with a CAGR of +81.3% from 2012 to 2022. Russia (+87 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) also remains the largest hemp tow supplier in the CIS.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -3.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the export price increased by 536% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Russia.

Imports in CIS
In 2022, imports of hemp tow in the CIS surged to X tons, picking up by 16% against the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports enjoyed a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 522% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, hemp tow imports stood at $X in 2022. In general, imports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 190%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Belarus (X tons) was the main importer of hemp tow, comprising 88% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X tons), generating a 12% share of total imports.
Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the hemp tow imports, with a CAGR of +91.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Moldova (+37.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. While the share of Belarus (+85 p.p.) and Moldova (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported hemp tow in the CIS, comprising 91% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Moldova ($X), with a 6.9% share of total imports.

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -6.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a abrupt downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Moldova stood at $X per ton.
