Chicken Egg Market Size in CIS

In 2022, the CIS chicken egg market decreased by -4.7% to $X, falling for the third consecutive year after two years of growth. Overall, consumption recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 with an increase of 7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the market attained the peak level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, chicken egg production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, recorded a slight slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 7.6% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

Russia (X tons) constituted the country with the largest volume of chicken egg production, comprising approx. 69% of total volume. Moreover, chicken egg production in Russia exceeded the figures recorded by the second-largest producer, Uzbekistan (X tons), sixfold. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranked third in terms of total production with a 6.8% share.

In Russia, chicken egg production remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining producing countries recorded the following average annual rates of production growth: Uzbekistan (+7.3% per year) and Kazakhstan (+1.9% per year).

For the fourth year in a row, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of chicken eggs, which increased by 7.3% to X tons in 2022. Overall, exports posted a significant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 182% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In value terms, chicken egg exports declined to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a strong increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +28.6% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when exports increased by 58%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Uzbekistan represented the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which finished at 72% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) took a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (11%). Kazakhstan (X tons) held a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to chicken egg exports from Uzbekistan stood at +17.3%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+24.2%), Russia (+10.4%) and Belarus (+1.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +24.2% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+72 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia and Belarus saw its share reduced by -14.7% and -57.8% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest chicken egg supplying countries in the CIS were Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), together accounting for 89% of total exports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, which accounted for a further 9.6%.

Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +23.2%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by -9.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw a deep slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the export price increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+0.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2022, the amount of chicken eggs imported in the CIS reduced rapidly to X tons, shrinking by -60.7% on the year before. In general, imports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, chicken egg imports totaled $X in 2022. Total imports indicated a remarkable increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +54.1% against 2017 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when imports increased by 28%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 81% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with an 8.4% share, followed by Kyrgyzstan (5.9%).

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +32.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported chicken eggs in the CIS, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Kyrgyzstan, with a 3.7% share.

In Russia, chicken egg imports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.6% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+27.4% per year) and Kyrgyzstan (+44.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 159% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a pronounced curtailment. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
