The CIS canned food market rose to $X in 2021, picking up by 2.9% against the previous year. Overall, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by 7.9% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, consumption failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, canned food production expanded modestly to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the production volume increased by 8.6%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, production failed to regain momentum.

Exports in CIS
In 2021, canned food exports in the CIS stood at X tons, growing by 15% on the previous year. In general, exports posted a prominent expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when exports increased by 22% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, canned food exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated resilient growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +115.3% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when exports increased by 27% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the key exporter of canned food in the CIS, with the volume of exports accounting for X tons, which was near 61% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Armenia (X tons), together creating a 31% share of total exports. Moldova (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned food exports from Russia stood at +17.3%. At the same time, Armenia (+20.2%), Uzbekistan (+9.3%) and Belarus (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +20.2% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Moldova (-8.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+27 p.p.), Armenia (+3.2 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Belarus and Moldova saw its share reduced by -11.3% and -14.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest canned food supplier in the CIS, comprising 66% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 26% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 2.9% share.
In Russia, canned food exports increased at an average annual rate of +11.9% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+1.6% per year) and Armenia (+12.4% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 6.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a perceptible reduction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the export price increased by 9.2%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+25.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, imports of canned food in the CIS reached X tons, surging by 1.6% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a mild decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, canned food imports expanded significantly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 12%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) represented the key importer of canned food, constituting 67% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together making up a 21% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to canned food imports into Russia stood at -3.4%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+21.8%), Armenia (+7.0%), Kyrgyzstan (+6.8%), Belarus (+6.5%), Kazakhstan (+5.0%) and Azerbaijan (+1.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +21.8% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+5.8 p.p.), Belarus (+3.6 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -15.7% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported canned food in the CIS, comprising 59% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.8% share.
In Russia, canned food imports contracted by an average annual rate of -3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+4.4% per year) and Belarus (+3.8% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 8.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2013; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
