Honey Market Size in CIS

The CIS honey market dropped to $X in 2022, waning by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a perceptible descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the market value increased by 6.4% against the previous year. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After three years of growth, shipments abroad of honey decreased by -11.5% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 105% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, honey exports fell rapidly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 105%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined significantly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Moldova (X tons) and Russia (X tons) dominates exports structure, together generating 92% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +30.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the exports figures.

In value terms, Moldova ($X) remains the largest honey supplier in the CIS, comprising 62% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 28% share of total exports.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, shrinking by -8.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a mild downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the export price increased by 33%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of honey, when their volume decreased by -17.9% to X tons. Overall, imports saw a abrupt setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 64%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. Imports by Country

Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) were the major importers of honey in 2022, amounting to approx. 26% and 23% of total imports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons), together comprising a 45% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the key importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +246.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 62% share of total imports. Azerbaijan, Moldova, Armenia and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 37%.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +262.1%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 5.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 29% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
