In 2022, the number of animals slaughtered for horse, mule and donkey meat production in the CIS contracted to X heads, almost unchanged from 2021 figures. This number increased at an average annual rate of +3.7% over the period from 2012 to 2022; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the number of producing animals increased by 6.7%. The level of producing animals peaked at X heads in 2021, and then contracted slightly in the following year.

Horse, mule and donkey meat exports contracted to X tons in 2022, with a decrease of -6.5% against 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports saw a noticeable setback. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the peak figure at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, horse, mule and donkey meat exports reduced to $X in 2022. Overall, exports continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 32%.
