The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports decreased by -25.3% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when exports increased by 23% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar exports declined remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 45%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the largest exporter of concrete reinforcing bars, committing 70% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together took near 20% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+86.6%), Kyrgyzstan (+28.7%) and Kazakhstan (+26.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +86.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-10.9%) and Uzbekistan (-16.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+21 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+7.8 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+4.2 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.8 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.3 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-32.1 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest concrete reinforcing bar supplier in the CIS, comprising 64% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +3.1%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (-9.2% per year) and Kazakhstan (+29.9% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -9.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price showed a slight decline. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when the export price increased by 53%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then contracted in the following year.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) and Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Uzbekistan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kyrgyzstan (+6.6%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in CIS

Concrete reinforcing bar imports reached X tons in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the year before. Overall, imports, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 66% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, concrete reinforcing bar imports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 93%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) represented the main importers of concrete reinforcing bars in 2022, finishing at near 29% and 27% of total imports, respectively. Belarus (X tons) took the next position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons). All these countries together held near 39% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +44.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2022, with a combined 65% share of total imports. Kyrgyzstan, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 30%.

In terms of the main importing countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +59.5%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, which is down by -3.9% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 52%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Belarus ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) and Armenia ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
