In 2021, household hand tools exports in the CIS expanded sharply to X tons, increasing by 13% compared with the previous year. Overall, exports showed a significant increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 146%. The volume of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
In value terms, household hand tools exports surged to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a strong expansion. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Belarus was the major exporting country with an export of around X tons, which resulted at 86% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), generating a 12% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to household hand tools exports from Belarus stood at +31.1%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+32.9%) and Russia (+18.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +32.9% from 2012-2021. Belarus (+12 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -12.4% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, together accounting for 99% of total exports.
Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +26.0%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 30% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a abrupt curtailment. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, imports of household hand tools in the CIS surged to X tons, rising by 20% against 2020. Over the period under review, imports recorded a moderate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, household hand tools imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +107.3% against 2015 indices. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the key importer of household hand tools in the CIS, with the volume of imports amounting to X tons, which was near 65% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) took a 20% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (9.1%). Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of household hand tools. At the same time, Belarus (+38.1%), Uzbekistan (+31.4%) and Kazakhstan (+6.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +38.1% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan increased by +18, +2.4 and +2 percentage points, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported household hand tools in the CIS, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8.1% share.
In Russia, household hand tools imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.2% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+10.0% per year) and Belarus (+18.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 16% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 30% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+17.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
