Imines Market Size in CIS

After four years of growth, the CIS imines market decreased by -29.8% to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a significant expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

Imines Production in CIS

In value terms, imines production skyrocketed to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded modest growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when the production volume increased by 33%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2020 to 2021, production growth failed to regain momentum.

Imines Exports

Exports in CIS

After three years of decline, overseas shipments of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof increased by 28% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, recorded a perceptible decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imines exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. In general, exports, however, recorded a pronounced slump. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when exports increased by 44% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia prevails in exports structure, accounting for X tons, which was approx. 97% of total exports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+73.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +73.5% from 2012-2021. Belarus (+2.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -2.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest imines supplier in the CIS, comprising 97% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 3.3% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -3.9%.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 4.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, saw a mild curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 58%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-1.1%).

Imines Imports

Imports in CIS

In 2021, overseas purchases of imines and their derivatives and salts thereof decreased by -22.5% to X tons for the first time since 2014, thus ending a six-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, continue to indicate a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 122% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then dropped remarkably in the following year.

In value terms, imines imports dropped rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate significant growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 93%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at $X in 2020, and then declined sharply in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, accounting for X tons, which was near 88% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), achieving a 5.4% share of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to imines imports into Russia stood at +31.3%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+70.4%), Kazakhstan (+29.5%) and Belarus (+10.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +70.4% from 2012-2021. Russia (+14 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus saw its share reduced by -15.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported imines and their derivatives and salts thereof in the CIS, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 2.2% share.

In Russia, imines imports expanded at an average annual rate of +35.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-0.9% per year) and Uzbekistan (+50.0% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -4.8% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when the import price increased by 49%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then shrank modestly in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+3.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
