In 2021, the CIS imitation jewellery market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, showed a abrupt decline. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

After four years of decline, shipments abroad of imitation jewelry increased by 36% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 96% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, imitation jewellery exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports saw strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 149%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, recording X tons, which was near 82% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X tons), committing an 8.9% share of total exports. Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to imitation jewellery exports from Russia stood at +9.1%. At the same time, Moldova (+11.6%), Belarus (+11.4%) and Kyrgyzstan (+5.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +11.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-14.0%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Russia and Moldova increased by +16 and +3 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest imitation jewellery supplier in the CIS, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Moldova ($X), with a 6.3% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 1.3% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled +9.7%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Moldova (+21.6% per year) and Kazakhstan (-16.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 22% against the previous year. Export price indicated a slight expansion from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +1.1% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imitation jewellery export price decreased by -11.7% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 65% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+8.9%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of imitation jewelry increased by 117% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan (X tons) and Russia (X tons) dominates imports structure, together committing 83% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kyrgyzstan (X tons), comprising an 8.2% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - together made up 7% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +30.1%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported imitation jewelry in the CIS, comprising 72% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 21% share of total imports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 2.6% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled -10.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+10.8% per year) and Armenia (+4.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -36.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a abrupt decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 63%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.
