After five years of growth, the CIS insecticide market decreased by -11.5% to $X in 2021. Overall, consumption continues to indicate a buoyant expansion. Over the period under review, the market reached the peak level at $X in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.

In 2021, overseas shipments of insecticides increased by 16% to X tons, rising for the sixth consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, exports showed a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 with an increase of 121%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, insecticide exports expanded markedly to $X in 2021. In general, exports posted strong growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 177%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia was the largest exporting country with an export of around X tons, which recorded 79% of total exports. Belarus (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total exports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (7.1%). Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +6.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+36.8%), Kazakhstan (+34.0%) and Belarus (+10.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +36.8% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+6 p.p.), Belarus (+2.1 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -10.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest insecticide supplier in the CIS, comprising 75% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 4% share.

In Russia, insecticide exports expanded at an average annual rate of +9.5% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+11.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+23.7% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, falling by -8% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 25%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2020, and then reduced in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+113.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in CIS

In 2021, supplies from abroad of insecticides decreased by -5.1% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, imports, however, recorded a prominent increase. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 24%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, insecticide imports dropped to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, recorded a strong increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then declined in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the major importer of insecticides in the CIS, with the volume of imports resulting at X tons, which was near 58% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a 10% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (8.8%), Azerbaijan (8.4%) and Belarus (5.1%). The following importers - Moldova (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - each resulted at a 5.9% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +6.4% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+15.7%), Azerbaijan (+11.9%), Belarus (+7.2%), Moldova (+2.7%), Kyrgyzstan (+2.1%) and Kazakhstan (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.7% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+8.8 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+2.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan (-1.5 p.p.), Russia (-3.9 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-5.7 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported insecticides in the CIS, comprising 63% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 7.1% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +9.0%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+8.3% per year) and Uzbekistan (+19.5% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -6.7% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +2.0%. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 an increase of 8.8%. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2020, and then contracted in the following year.
