Optical Radiation Instruments Market Size in CIS

In 2022, after three years of growth, there was decline in the CIS optical radiation instruments market, when its value decreased by -3.6% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, enjoyed a noticeable expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, optical radiation instruments production expanded slightly to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production decreased by -2.8% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the production volume increased by 32%. Over the period under review, production attained the maximum level at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, production failed to regain momentum.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of instruments using optical radiations, when their volume decreased by -5.8% to X units. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when exports increased by 31%. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

In value terms, optical radiation instruments exports totaled $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, saw buoyant growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 with an increase of 97%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which finished at 52% of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 33% share, followed by Belarus (10%). Armenia (X units) held a minor share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +70.5%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest optical radiation instruments supplier in the CIS, comprising 77% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total exports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 4.7% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +20.4%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+69.8% per year) and Belarus (-3.1% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, surging by 12% against the previous year. Export price indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, optical radiation instruments export price increased by +92.5% against 2018 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 51%. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Armenia (+87.0%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

After six years of growth, purchases abroad of instruments using optical radiations decreased by -12.5% to X units in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a resilient increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X units, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, optical radiation instruments imports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a temperate expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 39%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped slightly in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, finishing at X units, which was approx. 81% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), generating an 8.4% share of total imports. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X units), Belarus (X units) and Uzbekistan (X units) - together made up 7.7% of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+15.0%), Belarus (+7.8%) and Azerbaijan (+7.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan increased by +4.7 and +1.7 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported instruments using optical radiations in the CIS, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 9.7% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7.5% share.

In Russia, optical radiation instruments imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+11.0% per year) and Belarus (+9.2% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, surging by 12% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when the import price increased by 18%. The level of import peaked at $X per unit in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Azerbaijan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
