The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -7.3% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 45% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted significantly in the following year.
In value terms, polymer ion-exchangers imports expanded to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, posted prominent growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 51% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the largest importer of ion-exchangers based on synthetic or natural polymers in primary forms, constituting 72% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took an 11% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (11%). Belarus (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to polymer ion-exchangers imports into Russia stood at +2.9%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+6.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported ion-exchangers based on synthetic or natural polymers in primary forms in the CIS, comprising 74% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 9.9% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 9.7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia totaled +9.9%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (-5.5% per year) and Kazakhstan (-4.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 22% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.2%. As a result, import price reached the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
