The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -5.1% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 31% against the previous year. Russia represented the main importer of iron or steel flexible tubing in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was approx. 53% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a 22% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (13%) and Uzbekistan (4.6%). Moldova (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+39.0%), Uzbekistan (+37.7%), Moldova (+9.1%), Belarus (+6.6%) and Kazakhstan (+3.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +39.0% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+7.5 p.p.), Belarus (+6.1 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+4.6 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.1 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.5 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -23.9% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported iron or steel flexible tubing in the CIS, comprising 67% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 13% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 8.3% share.
In Russia, metal flexible tubing imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+5.9% per year) and Belarus (+0.8% per year).
