Paper Label Market Size in CIS
In 2021, the CIS paper label market increased by 16% to $X, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.
Paper Label Production in CIS
In value terms, paper label production declined to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. In general, production recorded a noticeable downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 12% against the previous year. The level of production peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Paper Label Exports
Exports in CIS
In 2021, shipments abroad of labels of paper or paperboard decreased by -6.4% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Overall, exports, however, saw a resilient increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 60%. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020, and then shrank in the following year.
In value terms, paper label exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a buoyant increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +7.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +119.9% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 17%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Exports by Country
Belarus (X tons) and Russia (X tons) prevails in exports structure, together constituting 93% of total exports. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) - together made up 6.9% of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kazakhstan (with a CAGR of +61.0%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, the largest paper label supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Belarus ($X) and Moldova ($X), with a combined 98% share of total exports. These countries were followed by Kazakhstan, which accounted for a further 1.6%.
Kazakhstan, with a CAGR of +43.5%, saw the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, in terms of the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable decline. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (-3.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Paper Label Imports
Imports in CIS
Paper label imports reached X tons in 2021, growing by 2.1% compared with the previous year. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, paper label imports stood at $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 with an increase of 13% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of $X. From 2015 to 2021, the growth of imports remained at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia represented the key importer of labels of paper or paperboard in the CIS, with the volume of imports reaching X tons, which was near 66% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) took a 12% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (6.4%) and Kyrgyzstan (5.7%). Armenia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to paper label imports into Russia stood at +1.5%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+33.9%), Armenia (+14.9%), Azerbaijan (+10.8%), Kazakhstan (+8.3%) and Moldova (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +33.9% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Armenia and Azerbaijan increased by +5.1, +4, +2.4 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported labels of paper or paperboard in the CIS, comprising 60% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 7% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia was relatively modest. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+1.4% per year) and Belarus (-2.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, surging by 11% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
