Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

At the same time, Uzbekistan (+49.6%), Kyrgyzstan (+2.3%) and Azerbaijan (+1.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +49.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-13.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Azerbaijan (+6.7 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5.2 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+2.6 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-18.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lamb and sheep meat in the CIS, comprising 76% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 9.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 5.5% share.

In Russia, lamb and sheep meat imports plunged by an average annual rate of -21.6% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+58.1% per year) and Azerbaijan (+5.2% per year).
