In value terms, laptop and tablet computer exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a deep setback. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X units) was the largest exporter of laptops and palm-top computers, creating 75% of total exports. Belarus (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 15% share, followed by Kazakhstan (5.2%). Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Moldova (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+60.6%), Belarus (+40.9%) and Moldova (+12.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +60.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-33.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+57 p.p.), Belarus (+14 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+2.8 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-75.9 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest laptop and tablet computer supplier in the CIS, comprising 63% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 29% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 5.2% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +6.2%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+57.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (-29.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, growing by 33% against the previous year. Export price indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, laptop and tablet computer export price increased by +36.5% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2015 when the export price increased by 37% against the previous year. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+12.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Imports in CIS
In 2021, imports of laptops and palm-top computers in the CIS expanded remarkably to X units, with an increase of 8.5% on 2020. In general, imports, however, recorded a deep setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when imports increased by 38% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, laptop and tablet computer imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, continue to indicate a mild downturn. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when imports increased by 32% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X units, which was near 85% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), comprising a 7.7% share of total imports. Belarus (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units) took a relatively small share of total imports.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -5.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+15.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-6.8%) and Kazakhstan (-11.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+3.5 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-6.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported laptops and palm-top computers in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 3.6% share.
In Russia, laptop and tablet computer imports shrank by an average annual rate of -1.4% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (-8.0% per year) and Belarus (-0.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 18% against the previous year. Over the period from 2012 to 2021, it increased at an average annual rate of +4.0%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 19% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, major importing countries recorded the following prices: in Belarus ($X per unit) and Azerbaijan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) and Russia ($X per unit) were amongst the lowest.
