Lead Market Size in CIS

In 2022, the CIS lead market was finally on the rise to reach $X for the first time since 2019, thus ending a two-year declining trend. Over the period under review, consumption showed a prominent increase. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

Lead Production in CIS

In value terms, lead production reduced to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +3.2% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 36%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, after two years of growth, there was significant decline in overseas shipments of lead, when their volume decreased by -15.7% to X tons. In general, exports saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when exports increased by 39%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lead exports shrank remarkably to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a noticeable curtailment. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 41% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Russia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) dominates exports structure, together constituting 93% of total exports. The following exporters - Azerbaijan (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - together made up 6% of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +20.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Azerbaijan ($X) appeared to be the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2022, together accounting for 95% of total exports. Kyrgyzstan and Uzbekistan lagged somewhat behind, together comprising a further 3.2%.

Among the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +25.4%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, reducing by -11.2% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 an increase of 20% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Azerbaijan ($X per ton) and Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+14.1%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

After three years of growth, purchases abroad of lead decreased by -17.2% to X tons in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 209% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, lead imports fell dramatically to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, posted a strong expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 with an increase of 170%. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then declined dramatically in the following year.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) was the major importer of lead, mixing up 56% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) held a 36% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Kazakhstan (6.2%).

The growth pace was the most rapid in 2013 when the import price increased by 90% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
