Lifting Equipment Market Size in CIS

The CIS lifting equipment market skyrocketed to $X in 2021, growing by 24% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, lifting equipment production amounted to $X in 2021 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production, however, continues to indicate a pronounced decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when the production volume increased by 35%. Over the period under review, production hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, production remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, overseas shipments of lifting equipment were finally on the rise to reach X units for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, exports, however, saw a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when exports increased by 478% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lifting equipment exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 577% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Exports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X units) represented the major exporter of lifting equipment, creating 61% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units), together committing a 38% share of total exports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of exports of lifting equipment. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+10.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +10.7% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-4.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Kazakhstan and Russia increased by +8.1 and +7.4 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest lifting equipment supplier in the CIS, comprising 85% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 14% share of total exports.

In Russia, lifting equipment exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-18.2% per year) and Kazakhstan (-33.6% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, falling by -42.5% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a noticeable decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 when the export price increased by 131%. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per unit in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+6.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

After two years of decline, overseas purchases of lifting equipment increased by 71% to X units in 2021. Overall, imports enjoyed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 129%. As a result, imports reached the peak of X units. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, lifting equipment imports soared to $X in 2021. In general, imports continue to indicate prominent growth. As a result, imports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 88% of total imports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units), comprising a 6.2% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X units) and Azerbaijan (X units) - each reached a 3.9% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +11.7% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+29.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +29.8% from 2012-2021. Belarus experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-2.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Russia (+22 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.4 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Azerbaijan (-2.3 p.p.) and Belarus (-6.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported lifting equipment in the CIS, comprising 73% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 6% share.

In Russia, lifting equipment imports expanded at an average annual rate of +24.0% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+9.9% per year) and Belarus (+13.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, with an increase of 109% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate buoyant growth. As a result, import price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per unit), while Uzbekistan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+40.5%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
