In 2021, Uzbekistan (X tons) represented the major exporter of lithium carbonates, creating 70% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X kg), mixing up a 30% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at -35.8%.

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -36.9% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, continues to indicate a modest increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the export price increased by 118% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan totaled $X per ton.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+15.8%).

In 2021, approx. X tons of lithium carbonates were imported in the CIS; rising by 21% compared with 2020. In general, imports saw a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 246%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, lithium carbonate imports surged to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports posted significant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 330% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.
