In 2022, the CIS machinery for packing market increased by 3.3% to $X, rising for the second year in a row after two years of decline. Overall, consumption, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the market attained the maximum level at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded decline in shipments abroad of machinery for packing or wrapping, which decreased by -15.1% to X units in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, continue to indicate a temperate expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2019 when exports increased by 84%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, machinery for packing exports dropped modestly to $X in 2022. Overall, exports, however, posted a pronounced expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 95% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.

Russia represented the main exporting country with an export of around X units, which amounted to 53% of total exports. Belarus (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 31% share, followed by Armenia (11%). Azerbaijan (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of shipments, amongst the main exporting countries, was attained by Armenia (with a CAGR of +34.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest machinery for packing supplier in the CIS, comprising 83% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 9.8% share of total exports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 2.9% share.

In Russia, machinery for packing exports expanded at an average annual rate of +2.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+16.6% per year) and Armenia (+54.5% per year).

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, growing by 18% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Armenia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In 2022, approx. X units of machinery for packing or wrapping were imported in the CIS; with an increase of 15% on the year before. Total imports indicated a notable expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +142.8% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 when imports increased by 49%. The volume of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to see steady growth in the near future.

It was distantly followed by Uzbekistan (X units) and Kazakhstan (X units), together achieving an 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Armenia (X units) and Belarus (X units) - each accounted for a 3.8% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to machinery for packing imports into Russia stood at +2.3%. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+12.0%), Uzbekistan (+10.5%) and Armenia (+10.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +12.0% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-8.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+5.8 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+3.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Belarus and Russia saw its share reduced by -4% and -5.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for packing or wrapping in the CIS, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 7.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Armenia, with a 5.3% share.

In Russia, machinery for packing imports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.4% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+8.7% per year) and Armenia (+22.0% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2022, dropping by -13.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a perceptible setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 an increase of 9% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2015 to 2022, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Armenia ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
