Exports in CIS
In 2021, food manufacture machinery exports in the CIS reduced slightly to X units, dropping by -3.9% compared with 2020 figures. Overall, exports, however, posted a buoyant expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when exports increased by 149% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X units. From 2020 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery exports reduced to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports, however, showed strong growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 390%. As a result, the exports reached the peak of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the major exporting country with an export of about X units, which resulted at 69% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X units) and Moldova (X units), together making up a 27% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units) and Armenia (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to food manufacture machinery exports from Russia stood at +12.1%. At the same time, Armenia (+65.4%), Moldova (+29.9%), Belarus (+28.0%) and Kazakhstan (+22.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +65.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Belarus (+13 p.p.), Moldova (+3.7 p.p.) and Armenia (+1.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-19.2 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest food manufacture machinery supplier in the CIS, comprising 76% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 16% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 4.1% share.
In Russia, food manufacture machinery exports increased at an average annual rate of +7.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+13.6% per year) and Moldova (-9.5% per year).
Export Prices by Country
In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -3.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price continues to indicate a abrupt setback. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 167% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per unit), while Armenia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+2.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
After three years of decline, purchases abroad of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink increased by 3.6% to X units in 2021. In general, imports, however, recorded a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 86%. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at X units in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
In value terms, food manufacture machinery imports shrank slightly to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a mild reduction. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 143%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
Imports by Country
In 2021, Russia (X units) represented the major importer of machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink, committing 85% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X units), creating an 11% share of total imports. Uzbekistan (X units) held a little share of total imports.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -14.8% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+186.4%) and Kazakhstan (+19.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +186.4% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan (+10 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+2.9 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -13.8% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machinery for the preparation or manufacture of food or drink in the CIS, comprising 85% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 5.1% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to -2.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+12.8% per year) and Uzbekistan (+14.5% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, shrinking by -4.3% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, saw a strong expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2014 when the import price increased by 102%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per unit in 2020, and then declined modestly in the following year.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per unit), while Kazakhstan ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.
