In 2021, Belarus (X units) was the key exporter of machines for preparing, weaving and knitting textiles, generating 47% of total exports. Armenia (X units) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kyrgyzstan (X units) and Russia (X units). All these countries together held near 44% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X units), Uzbekistan (X units) and Moldova (X units) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to textile weaving and knitting machinery exports from Belarus stood at -2.8%. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, the largest textile weaving and knitting machinery supplying countries in the CIS were Russia ($X), Kazakhstan ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X), with a combined 67% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +57.1%, recorded the highest rates of growth with regard to the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per unit in 2021, increasing by 72% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price saw noticeable growth. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

After two years of decline, purchases abroad of machines for preparing, weaving and knitting textiles increased by 26% to X units in 2021. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate strong growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 112% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X units in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

At the same time, Armenia (+35.6%), Tajikistan (+33.3%), Kyrgyzstan (+3.1%) and Kazakhstan (+2.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +35.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Russia (-5.7%) and Belarus (-6.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+55 p.p.), Tajikistan (+3.2 p.p.) and Armenia (+2.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Belarus (-8.3 p.p.) and Russia (-49.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported machines for preparing, weaving and knitting textiles in the CIS, comprising 65% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 23% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 5.5% share.
