Magnetic Media Market Size in CIS

In 2021, the CIS magnetic media market increased by 13% to $X for the first time since 2016, thus ending a four-year declining trend. Overall, consumption, however, saw a pronounced contraction. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2017 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at X units in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, magnetic media exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Overall, exports, however, recorded a sharp slump. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2014 when exports increased by 85% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia prevails in exports structure, accounting for X units, which was approx. 81% of total exports in 2021. Azerbaijan (X units) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X units). All these countries together took near 14% share of total exports. Moldova (X units) took a little share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to magnetic media exports from Russia stood at -29.2%. At the same time, Moldova (+20.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Moldova emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +20.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Belarus (-12.7%) and Azerbaijan (-34.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus and Moldova increased by +5.9 and +3.3 percentage points, respectively.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at -24.2%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Azerbaijan (-14.8% per year) and Belarus (+1.3% per year).

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, dropping by -5.9% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted prominent growth. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 an increase of 845% against the previous year. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per unit. From 2017 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per unit), while Moldova ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

In value terms, magnetic media imports rose rapidly to $X in 2021. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt shrinkage. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when imports increased by 49%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Kazakhstan (X units) represented the main importer of magnetic media, not recorded, except cards with a magnetic stripe, making up 55% of total imports.
