In 2022, after six years of growth, there was significant decline in the CIS mango and mangosteen market, when its value decreased by -5.6% to $X. Over the period under review, consumption, however, recorded prominent growth. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then declined in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen production stood at $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Overall, production, however, recorded a noticeable decrease. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 with an increase of 4.9%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production remained at a lower figure.

Tajikistan (X kg) constituted the country with the largest volume of mango and mangosteen production, accounting for 100% of total volume.

Exports in CIS

For the third consecutive year, the CIS recorded growth in overseas shipments of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas, which increased by 13% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports posted a significant increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 when exports increased by 172% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2022 and are likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen exports contracted to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a significant increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 375% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

Exports by Country

Belarus (X tons) and Russia (X tons) were the largest exporters of mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in 2022, amounting to approx. 47% and 36% of total exports, respectively. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), mixing up a 17% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Belarus (with a CAGR of +61.4%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest mango and mangosteen supplier in the CIS, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 21% share of total exports.

In Russia, mango and mangosteen exports expanded at an average annual rate of +62.0% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+55.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+55.7% per year).

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -21.2% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded slight growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 75%. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+5.4%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS

Mango and mangosteen imports contracted modestly to X tons in 2022, which is down by -3.5% compared with the previous year's figure. Over the period under review, imports, however, saw a resilient expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2018 with an increase of 114%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2021, and then fell in the following year.

In value terms, mango and mangosteen imports dropped to $X in 2022. Overall, imports, however, showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 108% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2021, and then dropped in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, recording X tons, which was near 91% of total imports in 2022. Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +18.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+76.4%), Belarus (+28.6%) and Kazakhstan (+28.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +76.4% from 2012-2022. While the share of Belarus (+2.1 p.p.) and Kyrgyzstan (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-5.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mangoes, mangosteens and guavas in the CIS, comprising 93% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 3.4% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 1.6% share.

In Russia, mango and mangosteen imports increased at an average annual rate of +19.4% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+28.7% per year) and Kazakhstan (+24.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern.
