Manuka Market Size in CIS

The CIS manuka market reduced modestly to $X in 2022, shrinking by -2.4% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, recorded a pronounced reduction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 6.4%. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, consumption failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Russia ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

Over the period under review, imports saw a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 64% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, manuka imports fell to $X in 2022. Overall, imports continue to indicate a abrupt curtailment. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 108% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2022, Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented the main importers of manuka in the CIS, together reaching near 49% of total imports. Russia (X tons) took a 15% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (13%), Armenia (8.6%) and Azerbaijan (7.8%). Moldova (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.

Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +262.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, in terms of the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, rising by 5.7% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 29%. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2018 to 2022, the import prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
