The CIS mattocks and rakes market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, which is down by -4.7% against the previous year. In general, consumption, however, saw a pronounced expansion. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, consumption remained at a lower figure.

Exports in CIS
In 2022, the amount of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes exported in the CIS rose markedly to X tons, growing by 5.6% against the previous year. In general, exports recorded buoyant growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 with an increase of 85% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mattocks and rakes exports dropped slightly to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports recorded a remarkable increase. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 125% against the previous year. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then fell in the following year.
Exports by Country
Russia was the major exporter of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes in the CIS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 75% of total exports in 2022. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Belarus (11%).
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +14.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+61.9%) and Uzbekistan (+21.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +61.9% from 2012-2022. Uzbekistan (+14 p.p.) and Belarus (+10 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -23.6% from 2012 to 2022, respectively.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest mattocks and rakes supplier in the CIS, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 6.8% share of total exports.
In Russia, mattocks and rakes exports expanded at an average annual rate of +15.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+47.4% per year) and Uzbekistan (+14.0% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, waning by -9.3% against the previous year. Overall, the export price saw a mild descent. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 an increase of 23%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Mattocks And Rakes Imports
Imports in CIS
Mattocks and rakes imports rose slightly to X tons in 2022, increasing by 2.1% compared with 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports decreased by -3.6% against 2019 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 with an increase of 35% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of X tons. From 2020 to 2022, the growth of imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mattocks and rakes imports fell to $X in 2022. Total imports indicated modest growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +1.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +68.0% against 2017 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 45% against the previous year. As a result, imports reached the peak of $X, and then fell in the following year.
Imports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes, committing 50% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 41% share of total imports. The following importers - Moldova (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) - each reached a 5.9% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mattocks and rakes imports into Russia stood at -1.9%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+82.4%), Azerbaijan (+27.8%), Moldova (+11.0%), Belarus (+7.8%), Kyrgyzstan (+6.5%) and Kazakhstan (+1.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +82.4% from 2012-2022. While the share of Uzbekistan (+12 p.p.), Belarus (+4.4 p.p.), Kyrgyzstan (+2.6 p.p.), Azerbaijan (+2.3 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.9 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-24.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mattocks, picks, hoes and rakes in the CIS, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 10% share.
In Russia, mattocks and rakes imports declined by an average annual rate of -1.7% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+2.9% per year) and Belarus (+6.4% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, falling by -9.1% against the previous year. Overall, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when the import price increased by 21% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton, and then shrank in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
