In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per cubic meter, picking up by 44% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a pronounced curtailment. The level of export peaked at $X per cubic meter in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per cubic meter), while Belarus stood at $X per cubic meter.

In 2021, the amount of MDF imported in the CIS surged to X cubic meters, picking up by 21% on the previous year. Total imports indicated noticeable growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +106.2% against 2016 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 38%. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

In value terms, MDF imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a noticeable increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +2.6% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 48%. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

Imports by Country

In 2021, Russia (X cubic meters), distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X cubic meters), Uzbekistan (X cubic meters), Belarus (X cubic meters) and Azerbaijan (X cubic meters) represented the largest importers of MDF, together mixing up 89% of total imports. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X cubic meters) and Tajikistan (X cubic meters) - each finished at a 6% share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the leading importing countries, was attained by Azerbaijan (with a CAGR of +15.3%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X), Uzbekistan ($X) and Kazakhstan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, with a combined 71% share of total imports. These countries were followed by Belarus, Azerbaijan, Tajikistan and Kyrgyzstan, which together accounted for a further 23%.

Among the main importing countries, Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +20.1%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of imports, over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per cubic meter, growing by 19% against the previous year. In general, the import price showed a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per cubic meter in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per cubic meter), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per cubic meter) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+4.2%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
