Mechanical wood pulp exports reduced rapidly to X tons in 2022, shrinking by -29.2% compared with 2021 figures. Over the period under review, exports continue to indicate a abrupt decline. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 460% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mechanical wood pulp exports contracted remarkably to $X in 2022. In general, exports saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 526%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the exports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Exports by Country
Russia was the key exporter of mechanical wood pulp in the CIS, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 73% of total exports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Moldova (X tons), together generating a 27% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to mechanical wood pulp exports from Russia stood at -6.9%. Moldova experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, waning by -14.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 an increase of 29% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Moldova ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (-4.2%).

Imports in CIS
In 2022, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in purchases abroad of mechanical wood pulp, when their volume increased by 104% to X tons. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when imports increased by 294% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, mechanical wood pulp imports surged to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports posted a temperate increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 209%. Over the period under review, imports reached the peak figure at $X in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) represented roughly 77% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Moldova (X tons), mixing up an 18% share of total imports. The following importers - Uzbekistan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) - each accounted for a 3.4% share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2022, the biggest increases were recorded for Moldova (with a CAGR of +201.0%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the imports figures.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mechanical wood pulp in the CIS, comprising 56% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Moldova ($X), with an 11% share of total imports. It was followed by Azerbaijan, with a 9.2% share.
In Russia, mechanical wood pulp imports remained relatively stable over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Moldova (+131.0% per year) and Azerbaijan (+13.6% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, declining by -28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, recorded a perceptible expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2020 an increase of 72% against the previous year. The level of import peaked at $X per ton in 2021, and then reduced markedly in the following year.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+8.2%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
