Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +90.0% against 2014 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 44%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.
In value terms, penicillins or streptomycins medicaments imports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 49%. The level of import peaked at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Russia represented the largest importing country with an import of about X tons, which reached 44% of total imports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Azerbaijan (9.7%), Tajikistan (9.1%), Kazakhstan (8.6%), Kyrgyzstan (6%) and Belarus (5.6%).
From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to penicillins or streptomycins medicaments imports into Russia stood at +2.7%. At the same time, Azerbaijan (+42.8%), Tajikistan (+6.6%), Kyrgyzstan (+4.5%), Uzbekistan (+4.0%) and Belarus (+3.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Azerbaijan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +42.8% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-1.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+16 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+9.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-8.4 p.p.) and Russia (-14.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported medicaments of penicillins, streptomycins or derivatives thereof in the CIS, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 11% share.
In Russia, penicillins or streptomycins medicaments imports contracted by an average annual rate of -2.8% over the period from 2012-2022. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Uzbekistan (+9.6% per year) and Belarus (+3.0% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2022, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with an increase of 7.9% against the previous year. Overall, the import price, however, continues to indicate a deep contraction.
