Exports in CIS
For the third year in a row, the CIS recorded growth in shipments abroad of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings, which increased by 8.1% to X tons in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted a resilient increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 103% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning exports soared to $X in 2021. Overall, exports continue to indicate a prominent increase. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when exports increased by 94%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.
Exports by Country
Russia prevails in exports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 93% of total exports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +8.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+31.2%) and Kazakhstan (+10.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +31.2% from 2012-2021. While the share of Russia (-1.6 p.p.) decreased significantly, the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest mixed condiment, sause and seasoning supplier in the CIS, comprising 93% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 3.2% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +7.6%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kazakhstan (+6.9% per year) and Belarus (+35.8% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 24% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+3.5%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Imports of Mixed Condiments, Sauses and Seasonings
Imports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings imported in the CIS rose sharply to X tons, growing by 11% compared with 2020 figures. The total import volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.5% from 2012 to 2021; however, the trend pattern indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded in certain years. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when imports increased by 39% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.
In value terms, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +26.1% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 64%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Imports by Country
Russia (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) represented roughly 58% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) held a 13% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (7.8%), Azerbaijan (6.7%) and Moldova (5.4%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of purchases, amongst the main importing countries, was attained by Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +10.4%), while imports for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported mixed condiments, sauses and seasonings in the CIS, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with an 11% share.
In Russia, mixed condiment, sause and seasoning imports expanded at an average annual rate of +4.7% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (-0.1% per year) and Belarus (+3.1% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, increasing by 4.5% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when the import price increased by 17% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2017; afterwards, it flattened through to 2021.
Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+3.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the import price figures.
