Dried Mushroom Market Size in CIS

In 2022, the CIS dried mushroom market decreased by -62.5% to $X, falling for the second year in a row after two years of growth. Over the period under review, consumption saw a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Dried Mushroom Production in CIS

In value terms, dried mushroom production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. The total production indicated a temperate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, production increased by +6.0% against 2020 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the production volume increased by 65%. The level of production peaked at $X in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, production stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Dried Mushroom Exports

Exports in CIS

After two years of growth, shipments abroad of dried mushrooms and truffles decreased by -28.7% to X tons in 2022. In general, exports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when exports increased by 416%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2017 to 2022, the growth of the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, dried mushroom exports contracted dramatically to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, exports, however, posted measured growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 271% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports attained the peak figure at $X in 2021, and then declined notably in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia dominates exports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 90% of total exports in 2022. The following exporters - Kazakhstan (X tons), Belarus (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) - together made up 9.6% of total exports.

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +1.2% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Belarus (+8.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +8.9% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. By contrast, Kyrgyzstan (-6.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+3.3 p.p.) and Belarus (+1.7 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Kyrgyzstan saw its share reduced by -3.3% from 2012 to 2022, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest dried mushroom supplier in the CIS, comprising 90% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kyrgyzstan ($X), with a 5.2% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 3% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +2.5%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Kyrgyzstan (+3.8% per year) and Kazakhstan (+20.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, with a decrease of -3.2% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, posted noticeable growth. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the export price increased by 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the peak figure at $X per ton in 2021, and then contracted in the following year.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (+19.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Dried Mushroom Imports

Imports in CIS

Dried mushroom imports plummeted to X tons in 2022, which is down by -58.8% on 2021. Overall, imports showed a noticeable shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 53% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then declined rapidly in the following year.

In value terms, dried mushroom imports reduced sharply to $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports continue to indicate a abrupt descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 when imports increased by 89%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at $X in 2020; however, from 2021 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

Imports by Country

Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was approx. 86% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), constituting a 7.1% share of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to dried mushroom imports into Russia stood at -3.2%. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+29.9%) and Belarus (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +29.9% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-15.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia, Belarus and Kyrgyzstan increased by +5.9, +3.2 and +1.5 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported dried mushrooms and truffles in the CIS, comprising 78% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 6.4% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled -5.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+3.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (-19.4% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, declining by -54.8% against the previous year. Overall, the import price saw a pronounced descent. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 an increase of 45%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2021 to 2022, the import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2022, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Belarus (+1.3%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
