The CIS narrow woven fabric market rose rapidly to $X in 2021, with an increase of 11% against the previous year. Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The level of consumption peaked at $X in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, shipments abroad of narrow woven fabrics decreased by -3.3% to X tons, falling for the fourth year in a row after two years of growth. Overall, exports, however, posted a strong expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 136% against the previous year. As a result, the exports reached the peak of X tons. From 2018 to 2021, the growth of the exports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric exports surged to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated a measured increase from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.2% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports increased by +105.7% against 2015 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 when exports increased by 46%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in years to come.

Exports by Country

Belarus represented the major exporting country with an export of about X tons, which accounted for 75% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Russia (X tons), committing a 23% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) took a minor share of total exports.

Belarus was also the fastest-growing in terms of the narrow woven fabrics exports, with a CAGR of +14.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Russia (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-1.2%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Belarus (+13 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Belarus ($X), Russia ($X) and Uzbekistan ($X) were the countries with the highest levels of exports in 2021, with a combined 97% share of total exports.

In terms of the main exporting countries, Uzbekistan, with a CAGR of +30.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of exports, over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 28% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the export price, however, recorded a abrupt contraction. Over the period under review, the export prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+32.1%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

In 2021, approx. X tons of narrow woven fabrics were imported in the CIS; increasing by 6.3% on the year before. Overall, imports enjoyed a prominent increase. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 118% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, narrow woven fabric imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 34% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in years to come.

In 2021, Russia (X tons) was the main importer of narrow woven fabrics, constituting 65% of total imports. Belarus (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 12% share, followed by Uzbekistan (9.1%) and Kazakhstan (5.3%). The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons) - each amounted to a 5.6% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+13.7%), Kazakhstan (+11.9%), Uzbekistan (+8.2%), Moldova (+3.4%) and Kyrgyzstan (+2.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +13.7% from 2012-2021. Uzbekistan (+9.1 p.p.), Belarus (+5 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+1.6 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -14.3% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported narrow woven fabrics in the CIS, comprising 57% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 15% share of total imports. It was followed by Moldova, with an 11% share.

In Russia, narrow woven fabric imports expanded at an average annual rate of +1.0% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+2.0% per year) and Moldova (+5.6% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, rising by 23% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2021, import prices remained at a lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+22.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
