Uzbekistan (+97 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total exports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -43.5% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.
In value terms, Uzbekistan ($X) emerged as the largest natural sand supplier in the CIS, comprising 99% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Russia ($X), with a 1% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Uzbekistan stood at +271.3%.
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, picking up by 48% against the previous year. Export price indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, natural sand export price increased by +66.6% against 2019 indices. As a result, the export price attained the peak level and is likely to continue growth in the immediate term.
Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (-6.4%).

In 2021, after three years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas purchases of natural sands, when their volume increased by 71% to X tons. Over the period under review, imports, however, showed a noticeable decrease. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2021, Russia (X tons), Kyrgyzstan (X tons) and Belarus (X tons) was the largest importer of natural sands in the CIS, creating 78% of total import. Armenia (X tons) ranks next in terms of the total imports with a 10% share, followed by Azerbaijan (8.9%). Uzbekistan (X tons) held a relatively small share of total imports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were in Uzbekistan (with a CAGR of +95.3%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported natural sands in the CIS, comprising 34% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 14% share.
In Russia, natural sand imports contracted by an average annual rate of -10.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Azerbaijan (-0.0% per year) and Belarus (-7.8% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, dropping by -21.6% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the import price saw a noticeable decline. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 when the import price increased by 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.
There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Azerbaijan ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+0.7%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
