In 2021, after four years of growth, there was significant decline in supplies from abroad of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials, when their volume decreased by -9.1% to X tons. Total imports indicated a tangible increase from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +3.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +81.2% against 2016 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2014 with an increase of 26%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure at X tons in 2020, and then fell in the following year.

The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 when imports increased by 33% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.

Russia was the main importer of nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 58% of total imports in 2021. Kazakhstan (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Belarus (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Moldova (X tons). All these countries together held approx. 37% share of total imports. The following importers - Azerbaijan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - each resulted at a 3.6% share of total imports.

Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +1.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+38.1%), Uzbekistan (+25.8%), Moldova (+21.4%), Armenia (+9.5%) and Kazakhstan (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +38.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-5.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Belarus (+12 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+4.2 p.p.) and Moldova (+3.5 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Azerbaijan (-2.6 p.p.) and Russia (-14.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported nets of twine, cordage, rope or textile materials in the CIS, comprising 68% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 12% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia stood at +3.5%. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Kazakhstan (+3.6% per year) and Belarus (+20.1% per year).
