Russia dominates exports structure, reaching X tons, which was approx. 74% of total exports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total exports with an 8.8% share, followed by Belarus (8.3%) and Moldova (6.6%).

Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +15.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+51.4%), Moldova (+29.9%) and Uzbekistan (+5.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +51.4% from 2012-2021. While the share of Uzbekistan (+8.8 p.p.), Belarus (+7.5 p.p.) and Moldova (+4.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2021, the share of Russia (-11.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest nuts (prepared or preserved) supplier in the CIS, comprising 72% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was held by Belarus ($X), with a 15% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 6.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +12.1%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+58.7% per year) and Moldova (+35.0% per year).

Export Prices by Country

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, with an increase of 17% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable descent. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+16.7%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2021, overseas purchases of nuts (prepared or preserved) increased by 25% to X tons, rising for the fifth year in a row after two years of decline. In general, imports posted strong growth. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, nuts (prepared or preserved) imports surged to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated buoyant growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +6.9% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +90.9% against 2016 indices. As a result, imports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

Imports by Country

Kazakhstan was the main importer of nuts (prepared or preserved) in the CIS, with the volume of imports accounting for X tons, which was near 38% of total imports in 2021. Kyrgyzstan (X tons) took an 18% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Russia (17%), Belarus (14%) and Uzbekistan (5%). Armenia (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

Imports into Kazakhstan increased at an average annual rate of +9.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Armenia (+39.3%), Uzbekistan (+38.4%), Kyrgyzstan (+32.0%), Belarus (+16.7%), Azerbaijan (+11.8%) and Russia (+4.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +39.3% from 2012-2021. While the share of Kyrgyzstan (+14 p.p.), Belarus (+5.2 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5 p.p.) and Armenia (+2.2 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-6.1 p.p.) and Russia (-11.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X), Russia ($X) and Belarus ($X) constituted the countries with the highest levels of imports in 2021, together comprising 85% of total imports. Kyrgyzstan, Uzbekistan, Azerbaijan and Armenia lagged somewhat behind, together accounting for a further 12%.

Azerbaijan, with a CAGR of +32.5%, saw the highest growth rate of the value of imports, among the main importing countries over the period under review, while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -1.6% against the previous year. In general, the import price continues to indicate a noticeable decrease. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2014 an increase of 14% against the previous year. As a result, import price attained the peak level of $X per ton. From 2015 to 2021, the import prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably country of destination: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Kyrgyzstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
