In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 39% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Prices varied noticeably country of origin: the country with the highest price was Russia ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Russia (+3.0%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Ophthalmic instruments imports rose remarkably to X tons in 2021, increasing by 13% compared with 2020. Overall, imports showed a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, ophthalmic instruments imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated pronounced growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.4% over the last nine years. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 5.2% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Uzbekistan (4.8%). The following importers - Belarus (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Armenia (X tons) - together made up 7.3% of total imports.

Russia experienced a relatively flat trend pattern with regard to volume of imports of ophthalmic instruments and appliances. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+23.9%), Belarus (+5.0%) and Armenia (+2.1%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +23.9% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-1.2%) and Kazakhstan (-3.8%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Uzbekistan (+4.8 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2021, the share of Kazakhstan (-2.4 p.p.) and Russia (-4.4 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.
