In 2021, the CIS cyclic hydrocarbons market was finally on the rise to reach $X after two years of decline. In general, consumption, however, recorded a noticeable descent. As a result, consumption reached the peak level of $X. From 2014 to 2021, the growth of the market failed to regain momentum.

In 2021, shipments abroad of other cyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -20.4% to X tons, falling for the third consecutive year after three years of growth. Over the period under review, exports recorded a deep slump. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when exports increased by 39%. As a result, the exports attained the peak of X tons. From 2019 to 2021, the growth of the exports remained at a somewhat lower figure.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports saw a abrupt slump. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2018 with an increase of 61% against the previous year. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the exports failed to regain momentum.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the key exporter of other cyclic hydrocarbons in the CIS, with the volume of exports recording X tons, which was near 88% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), achieving a 12% share of total exports.

Exports from Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -11.0% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+20.8%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Belarus emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +20.8% from 2012-2021. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus increased by +12 percentage points.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest cyclic hydrocarbons supplier in the CIS, comprising 87% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 13% share of total exports.

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, picking up by 68% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, recorded a perceptible contraction. Over the period under review, the export prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.

In 2021, overseas purchases of other cyclic hydrocarbons decreased by -39.4% to X tons for the first time since 2015, thus ending a five-year rising trend. In general, imports, however, enjoyed a prominent expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2016 when imports increased by 135% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2020, and then contracted dramatically in the following year.

In value terms, cyclic hydrocarbons imports dropped remarkably to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, imports, however, enjoyed perceptible growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 132% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2020, and then plummeted in the following year.

Imports by Country

Russia represented the main importing country with an import of around X tons, which accounted for 80% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons), together constituting a 20% share of total imports.

Russia was also the fastest-growing in terms of the other cyclic hydrocarbons imports, with a CAGR of +16.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Belarus (+10.4%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-11.1%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Russia (+32 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Kazakhstan saw its share reduced by -28.2% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported other cyclic hydrocarbons in the CIS, comprising 81% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 13% share of total imports.

In Russia, cyclic hydrocarbons imports expanded at an average annual rate of +8.4% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (-1.1% per year) and Kazakhstan (-14.5% per year).

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, waning by -2.7% against the previous year. In general, the import price recorded a abrupt shrinkage. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when the import price increased by 16%. Over the period under review, import prices hit record highs at $X per ton in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2021, import prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-3.8%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the import price figures.
