In 2021, lock and key exports in the CIS rose significantly to X tons, growing by 9.2% against the year before. Overall, exports saw a prominent expansion. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 54%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum in 2021 and are expected to retain growth in the immediate term.
In value terms, lock and key exports soared to $X in 2021. In general, exports showed a strong expansion. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2013 when exports increased by 45%. Over the period under review, the exports hit record highs in 2021 and are likely to see gradual growth in the near future.
Exports by Country
Russia represented the key exporter of padlocks, locks and keys of base metal in the CIS, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 59% of total exports in 2021. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), creating a 36% share of total exports. The following exporters - Moldova (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons) - each resulted at a 3.5% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Russia (with a CAGR of +19.8%), while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest lock and key supplier in the CIS, comprising 65% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 30% share of total exports. It was followed by Moldova, with a 1.9% share.
In Russia, lock and key exports increased at an average annual rate of +12.9% over the period from 2012-2021. In the other countries, the average annual rates were as follows: Belarus (+7.5% per year) and Moldova (-6.1% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 23% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, recorded a pronounced setback. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 when the export price increased by 33%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2021, the export prices remained at a lower figure.
Average prices varied somewhat amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, major exporting countries recorded the following prices: in Russia ($X per ton) and Moldova ($X per ton), while Belarus ($X per ton) and Kazakhstan ($X per ton) were amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Moldova (+0.4%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.
Lock And Key Imports
Imports in CIS
In 2021, the amount of padlocks, locks and keys of base metal imported in the CIS surged to X tons, growing by 16% against the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated measured growth from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +4.4% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2017 with an increase of 43% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to see steady growth in the near future.
In value terms, lock and key imports soared to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated a noticeable expansion from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.0% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +108.4% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 31% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see steady growth in years to come.
Imports by Country
Russia dominates imports structure, reaching X tons, which was near 67% of total imports in 2021. Belarus (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 23% share of total imports. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Tajikistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) - each accounted for an 8.1% share of total imports.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +3.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+14.5%), Belarus (+10.9%), Tajikistan (+10.1%), Kyrgyzstan (+8.4%) and Kazakhstan (+2.6%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +14.5% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-4.4%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+5.3 p.p.) and Belarus (+4.2 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Azerbaijan and Russia saw its share reduced by -3% and -6.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported padlocks, locks and keys of base metal in the CIS, comprising 71% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 9% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 8.5% share.
From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia amounted to +2.5%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Belarus (+6.9% per year) and Kazakhstan (+4.7% per year).
Import Prices by Country
In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, surging by 12% against the previous year. In general, the import price, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. Over the period under review, import prices reached the peak figure at $X per ton in 2014; however, from 2015 to 2021, import prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+18.8%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
