The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +17.7% against 2018 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2016 with an increase of 41%. Over the period under review, the exports attained the maximum at X tons in 2021, and then reduced modestly in the following year.
In value terms, non-aqueous paint and varnish exports expanded slightly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated a moderate increase from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.0% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +92.8% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 24%. Over the period under review, the exports reached the maximum in 2022 and are expected to retain growth in the near future.

Russia represented the largest exporting country with an export of about X tons, which resulted at 67% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X tons), committing a 26% share of total exports. Kazakhstan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +5.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+60.8%), Azerbaijan (+9.4%) and Belarus (+1.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +60.8% from 2012-2022. While the share of Russia (+5.9 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (+3.1 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total exports from 2012-2022, the share of Belarus (-10.3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest non-aqueous paint and varnish supplier in the CIS, comprising 67% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 19% share of total exports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 8.9% share.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to +3.0%. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (-1.4% per year) and Kazakhstan (+59.6% per year).
Export Prices by Country
The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, increasing by 3% against the previous year. In general, the export price, however, continues to indicate a mild contraction. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2017 an increase of 17%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, the export prices failed to regain momentum.
Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Azerbaijan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+4.6%), while the other leaders experienced a decline in the export price figures.

Imports in CIS
Non-aqueous paint and varnish imports contracted to X tons in 2022, remaining relatively unchanged against the previous year. Overall, imports continue to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when imports increased by 9.9%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, non-aqueous paint and varnish imports stood at $X in 2022. Over the period under review, imports saw a mild downturn. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2021 when imports increased by 18% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of around X tons, which amounted to 55% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) held a 16% share (based on physical terms) of total imports, which put it in second place, followed by Belarus (9.7%) and Uzbekistan (7.9%). Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) took a minor share of total imports.
Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -2.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+25.0%), Azerbaijan (+9.3%), Tajikistan (+7.0%), Kyrgyzstan (+4.8%) and Belarus (+3.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +25.0% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Uzbekistan (+7.9 p.p.), Belarus (+2.6 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.7 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-16.5 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
