The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +62.2% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 with an increase of 22%. The volume of export peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in the near future.

In value terms, paint and varnish exports fell modestly to $X in 2022. Total exports indicated moderate growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +3.1% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, exports increased by +89.9% against 2015 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2021 when exports increased by 28% against the previous year. As a result, the exports attained the peak of $X, and then shrank slightly in the following year.

Exports by Country

Russia represented the major exporter of paints and varnishes in the CIS, with the volume of exports finishing at X tons, which was near 59% of total exports in 2022. Belarus (X tons) held the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together took approx. 34% share of total exports. Armenia (X tons), Uzbekistan (X tons) and Azerbaijan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to paint and varnish exports from Russia stood at +3.9%. At the same time, Armenia (+37.3%), Kazakhstan (+21.9%), Uzbekistan (+14.2%), Azerbaijan (+13.0%) and Belarus (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Armenia emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +37.3% from 2012-2022. In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, dropping by -6.4% against the previous year. Overall, the export price recorded a slight shrinkage. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 an increase of 14% against the previous year. In 2022, the amount of paints and varnishes imported in the CIS fell modestly to X tons, almost unchanged from the previous year's figure. In general, imports, however, recorded a relatively flat trend pattern. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 with an increase of 11% against the previous year. As a result, imports attained the peak of X tons, and then reduced in the following year.

Belarus (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Kazakhstan (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons). All these countries together held near 33% share of total imports. The following importers - Kyrgyzstan (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Armenia (X tons) and Tajikistan (X tons) - together made up 11% of total imports.

From 2012 to 2022, average annual rates of growth with regard to paint and varnish imports into Russia stood at -1.6%. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+21.1%), Azerbaijan (+10.1%), Belarus (+7.4%), Kyrgyzstan (+5.2%), Armenia (+4.5%) and Tajikistan (+4.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +21.1% from 2012-2022. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. While the share of Belarus (+6.5 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+5.8 p.p.) and Azerbaijan (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Kazakhstan (-1.9 p.p.) and Russia (-14.8 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported paints and varnishes in the CIS, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with a 17% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with an 11% share.
