The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 with an increase of 161%. The level of export peaked in 2022 and is likely to see gradual growth in the near future.

In 2022, Kyrgyzstan (X tons) represented the main exporter of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing, generating 70% of total exports. Russia (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, followed by Moldova (X tons) and Kazakhstan (X tons). All these countries together held near 28% share of total exports. Uzbekistan (X tons) held a minor share of total exports.

Kyrgyzstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing exports, with a CAGR of +107.0% from 2012 to 2022. In value terms, the largest seed, fruit and spore used for sowing supplying countries in the CIS were Kazakhstan ($X), Kyrgyzstan ($X) and Russia ($X), together comprising 79% of total exports.

Kyrgyzstan, with a CAGR of +83.9%, recorded the highest growth rate of the value of exports, among the main exporting countries over the period under review, while shipments for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, which is down by -39.9% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a deep downturn. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2013 when the export price increased by 57%. As a result, the export price reached the peak level of $X per ton. From 2014 to 2022, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

Prices varied noticeably by country of origin: amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Uzbekistan (+19.7%), while the other leaders experienced mixed trends in the export price figures.

Imports of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing surged to X tons in 2022, growing by 59% compared with the previous year's figure. Total imports indicated tangible growth from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.9% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2016; however, from 2017 to 2022, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, imports of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing reached $X in 2022. Overall, imports showed a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2015 with an increase of 53%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is likely to continue growth in the near future.

Imports by Country

Uzbekistan was the largest importer of seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing in the CIS, with the volume of imports recording X tons, which was near 48% of total imports in 2022. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), Russia (X tons), Azerbaijan (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Belarus (X tons), together generating a 51% share of total imports.

Uzbekistan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the seeds, fruit and spores used for sowing imports, with a CAGR of +14.7% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+11.8%) and Moldova (+5.3%) displayed positive paces of growth. By contrast, Russia (-3.6%), Azerbaijan (-6.8%) and Belarus (-11.9%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan increased by +48 and +8.4 percentage points, respectively. The second position in the ranking was held by Uzbekistan ($X), with a 16% share of total imports. It was followed by Kazakhstan, with a 10% share.

From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +5.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+18.0% per year) and Kazakhstan (+6.1% per year).

The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2019 when the import price increased by 60% against the previous year. Over the period under review, import prices reached the maximum at $X per ton in 2021, and then fell remarkably in the following year.
