Over the period under review, consumption, however, continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. In 2021, overseas shipments of passenger cars increased by 40% to X units, rising for the second consecutive year after two years of decline. Over the period under review, exports saw a relatively flat trend pattern. In value terms, passenger car exports soared to $X in 2021. In 2021, Russia (X units) represented the main exporter of passenger cars, generating 66% of total exports. Belarus (X units) ranks second in terms of the total exports with a 14% share, followed by Uzbekistan (11%) and Kazakhstan (8%).

Exports from Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -4.2% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+61.1%) and Belarus (+42.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +61.1% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Uzbekistan (-13.7%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Belarus, Uzbekistan and Kazakhstan increased by +13, +11 and +7.9 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest passenger car supplier in the CIS, comprising 59% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Belarus ($X), with an 18% share of total exports. It was followed by Uzbekistan, with a 12% share.

In Russia, passenger car exports expanded at an average annual rate of +3.8% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining exporting countries recorded the following average annual rates of exports growth: Belarus (+36.2% per year) and Uzbekistan (+21.4% per year).

Export Prices by Country

In 2021, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, rising by 11% against the previous year. Overall, the export price continues to indicate a resilient expansion. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 50%. As a result, the export price attained the peak level of $X per unit. From 2020 to 2021, the export prices remained at a somewhat lower figure.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major exporting countries. In 2021, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per unit), while Russia ($X per unit) was amongst the lowest.

The following importers - Tajikistan (X units), Uzbekistan (X units) and Moldova (X units) - together made up 10% of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -12.1% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+28.8%), Tajikistan (+19.9%), Moldova (+10.2%), Azerbaijan (+6.3%) and Belarus (+5.5%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +28.8% from 2012-2021. Kazakhstan experienced a relatively flat trend pattern. Azerbaijan (+9.6 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+7.7 p.p.), Belarus (+4 p.p.), Uzbekistan (+3.9 p.p.), Tajikistan (+3.6 p.p.) and Moldova (+1.8 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -28.1% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported passenger cars in the CIS, comprising 61% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 14% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 9.2% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual growth rate of value in Russia amounted to -9.8%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+4.5% per year) and Belarus (+12.7% per year).

Import Prices by Country

In 2021, the import price in the CIS amounted to $X per unit, with an increase of 6% against the previous year. Over the last nine-year period, it increased at an average annual rate of +1.9%. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 when the import price increased by 30% against the previous year. The level of import peaked in 2021 and is likely to see gradual growth in the immediate term.
