The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports attained the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

In value terms, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports soared to $X in 2021. Total exports indicated strong growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.2% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. As a result, the exports reached the peak and are likely to continue growth in the immediate term.

The shipments of the one major exporters of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium, namely Kazakhstan, represented more than two-thirds of total export.

Kazakhstan was also the fastest-growing in terms of the phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports, with a CAGR of +7.5% from 2012 to 2021. The shares of the largest exporters remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.

In value terms, Kazakhstan ($X) also remains the largest phosphorus, arsenic and selenium supplier in the CIS.

In Kazakhstan, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium exports expanded at an average annual rate of +6.3% over the period from 2012-2021.

The export price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, growing by 4.6% against the previous year. Overall, the export price, however, continues to indicate a noticeable reduction. Over the period under review, the export prices attained the maximum at $X per ton in 2013; however, from 2014 to 2021, the export prices failed to regain momentum.

As there is only one major export destination, the average price level is determined by prices for Kazakhstan.

From 2012 to 2021, the rate of growth in terms of prices for Kazakhstan amounted to -1.1% per year.

Imports in CIS

In 2021, purchases abroad of phosphorus, arsenic and selenium increased by 146% to X tons for the first time since 2018, thus ending a two-year declining trend. In general, imports, however, faced a abrupt shrinkage. Over the period under review, imports reached the maximum at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Russia prevails in imports structure, resulting at X tons, which was near 74% of total imports in 2021. Uzbekistan (X tons) ranks second in terms of the total imports with a 7.7% share, followed by Kazakhstan (7.6%) and Tajikistan (6.3%). Belarus (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports into Russia stood at -16.6%. At the same time, Tajikistan (+68.6%) and Uzbekistan (+11.9%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Tajikistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +68.6% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-2.3%) and Belarus (-6.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. Uzbekistan (+7.7 p.p.), Tajikistan (+6.3 p.p.), Kazakhstan (+5.3 p.p.) and Belarus (+2.1 p.p.) significantly strengthened its position in terms of the total imports, while Russia saw its share reduced by -21.6% from 2012 to 2021, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported phosphorus, arsenic and selenium in the CIS, comprising 58% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Uzbekistan ($X), with an 18% share of total imports. It was followed by Tajikistan, with a 15% share.

In Russia, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium imports plunged by an average annual rate of -14.1% over the period from 2012-2021. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Uzbekistan (+45.0% per year) and Tajikistan (+190.5% per year).

Import Prices by Country

The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2021, increasing by 12% against the previous year. Import price indicated a pronounced increase from 2012 to 2021: its price increased at an average annual rate of +4.5% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, phosphorus, arsenic and selenium import price increased by +84.0% against 2016 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2019 an increase of 47%. Over the period under review, import prices attained the maximum in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in the immediate term.

There were significant differences in the average prices amongst the major importing countries. In 2021, amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Uzbekistan ($X per ton), while Kazakhstan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.

From 2012 to 2021, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Tajikistan (+72.3%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
