In 2021, after three years of growth, there was decline in the CIS photographic film market, when its value decreased by -0.9% to $X. In general, consumption, however, recorded a perceptible decrease. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, consumption stood at a somewhat lower figure.

In 2021, after two years of decline, there was significant growth in overseas shipments of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed, when their volume increased by 8.2% to X square meters. Total exports indicated a strong expansion from 2012 to 2021: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +5.3% over the last nine years. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, exports decreased by -17.6% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2013 with an increase of 53% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X square meters in 2018; however, from 2019 to 2021, the exports remained at a lower figure.

In value terms, photographic film exports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Over the period under review, exports posted resilient growth. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 with an increase of 36%. The level of export peaked in 2021 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.

In 2021, Russia (X square meters) was the largest exporter of photographic plates and film, photographic paper, paperboard and textiles and instant print film, sensitized, unexposed, generating 66% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Belarus (X square meters), making up a 32% share of total exports.

From 2012 to 2021, average annual rates of growth with regard to photographic film exports from Russia stood at +2.6%. At the same time, Belarus (+16.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a noticeable contraction. The volume of import peaked at X square meters in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2021, imports stood at a somewhat lower figure.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -5.3% from 2012 to 2021. At the same time, Kyrgyzstan (+7.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kyrgyzstan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +7.0% from 2012-2021. By contrast, Azerbaijan (-1.2%), Uzbekistan (-1.9%), Belarus (-3.2%) and Kazakhstan (-8.3%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2021, the share of Uzbekistan increased by +2.5 percentage points. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
