Pineapple Market Size in CIS
The CIS pineapple market reduced slightly to $X in 2022, remaining stable against the previous year. The total consumption indicated notable growth from 2012 to 2022: its value increased at an average annual rate of +4.6% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, consumption increased by +105.6% against 2016 indices. Over the period under review, the market hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Pineapple Production in CIS
In value terms, pineapple production declined to $X in 2022 estimated in export price. Over the period under review, production continues to indicate a relatively flat trend pattern. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2017 when the production volume increased by 23%. As a result, production reached the peak level of $X. From 2018 to 2022, production growth failed to regain momentum.
The country with the largest volume of pineapple production was Kyrgyzstan (X tons), accounting for 100% of total volume.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of volume in Kyrgyzstan amounted to +1.6%.
Pineapple Exports
Exports in CIS
In 2022, shipments abroad of pineapples decreased by -4.5% to X tons for the first time since 2016, thus ending a five-year rising trend. Over the period under review, exports, however, saw a significant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2020 with an increase of 446% against the previous year. The volume of export peaked at X tons in 2015; however, from 2016 to 2022, the exports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pineapple exports contracted to $X in 2022. In general, exports, however, posted buoyant growth. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2020 with an increase of 257%. The level of export peaked at $X in 2021, and then shrank in the following year.
Exports by Country
In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the largest exporter of pineapples, achieving 78% of total exports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), achieving a 20% share of total exports.
Exports from Russia increased at an average annual rate of +33.6% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Kazakhstan (+50.2%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Kazakhstan emerged as the fastest-growing exporter exported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +50.2% from 2012-2022. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Russia and Kazakhstan increased by +48 and +17 percentage points, while the shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) remains the largest pineapple supplier in the CIS, comprising 74% of total exports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 22% share of total exports.
From 2012 to 2022, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia stood at +23.8%.
Export Prices by Country
In 2022, the export price in the CIS amounted to $X per ton, almost unchanged from the previous year. In general, the export price showed a noticeable contraction. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2016 when the export price increased by 294%. The level of export peaked at $X per ton in 2017; however, from 2018 to 2022, the export prices stood at a somewhat lower figure.
Average prices varied noticeably amongst the major exporting countries. In 2022, amid the top suppliers, the country with the highest price was Kazakhstan ($X per ton), while Russia stood at $X per ton.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Kazakhstan (-4.0%).
Pineapple Imports
Imports in CIS
In 2022, imports of pineapples in the CIS reduced slightly to X tons, remaining relatively unchanged against 2021 figures. Total imports indicated a perceptible expansion from 2012 to 2022: its volume increased at an average annual rate of +2.3% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, imports increased by +6.9% against 2020 indices. The growth pace was the most rapid in 2018 when imports increased by 28% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.
In value terms, pineapple imports declined slightly to $X in 2022. In general, imports, however, saw a buoyant expansion. The pace of growth appeared the most rapid in 2019 when imports increased by 35% against the previous year. Over the period under review, imports hit record highs at $X in 2021, and then reduced slightly in the following year.
Imports by Country
Russia dominates imports structure, finishing at X tons, which was near 85% of total imports in 2022. Azerbaijan (X tons), Armenia (X tons), Belarus (X tons), Kazakhstan (X tons), Moldova (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) followed a long way behind the leaders.
Imports into Russia increased at an average annual rate of +2.1% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+33.3%), Armenia (+25.9%), Moldova (+5.2%) and Azerbaijan (+4.0%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +33.3% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Belarus (-1.8%) and Kazakhstan (-5.6%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. While the share of Armenia (+2.2 p.p.) and Uzbekistan (+1.6 p.p.) increased significantly in terms of the total imports from 2012-2022, the share of Russia (-1.7 p.p.) and Kazakhstan (-3 p.p.) displayed negative dynamics. The shares of the other countries remained relatively stable throughout the analyzed period.
In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported pineapples in the CIS, comprising 84% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Azerbaijan ($X), with a 3.2% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 3.2% share.
In Russia, pineapple imports expanded at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the period from 2012-2022. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Azerbaijan (+12.2% per year) and Belarus (+1.3% per year).
Import Prices by Country
The import price in the CIS stood at $X per ton in 2022, remaining constant against the previous year. Import price indicated a temperate expansion from 2012 to 2022: its price increased at an average annual rate of +3.2% over the last decade. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, pineapple import price increased by +60.1% against 2018 indices. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2020 when the import price increased by 41%. The level of import peaked in 2022 and is expected to retain growth in years to come.
Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Moldova ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
From 2012 to 2022, the most notable rate of growth in terms of prices was attained by Azerbaijan (+8.0%), while the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.
