Overall, imports, however, continue to indicate a abrupt setback. The pace of growth was the most pronounced in 2016 when imports increased by 9.1%. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2012; however, from 2013 to 2022, imports remained at a lower figure.

In 2022, Russia (X tons) represented the main importer of plaits, basketwork, wickerwork and similar products of plaiting materials, achieving 79% of total imports. It was distantly followed by Kazakhstan (X tons), making up an 11% share of total imports. The following importers - Belarus (X tons) and Uzbekistan (X tons) - together made up 5.8% of total imports.

Imports into Russia decreased at an average annual rate of -6.4% from 2012 to 2022. At the same time, Uzbekistan (+15.6%) and Belarus (+2.7%) displayed positive paces of growth. Moreover, Uzbekistan emerged as the fastest-growing importer imported in the CIS, with a CAGR of +15.6% from 2012-2022. By contrast, Kazakhstan (-1.5%) illustrated a downward trend over the same period. From 2012 to 2022, the share of Kazakhstan, Belarus and Uzbekistan increased by +3.5, +2.3 and +1.6 percentage points, respectively.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plaits, basketwork, wickerwork and similar products of plaiting materials in the CIS, comprising 83% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was taken by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 6.8% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 4.5% share.

The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2022 figures, plaits and basketwork import price increased by +14.9% against 2020 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2021 when the import price increased by 30%. As a result, import price reached the peak level of $X per ton, and then dropped in the following year.

Prices varied noticeably by country of destination: amid the top importers, the country with the highest price was Belarus ($X per ton), while Uzbekistan ($X per ton) was amongst the lowest.
