The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports decreased by -0.9% against 2019 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 26% against the previous year. The volume of import peaked at X tons in 2019; however, from 2020 to 2021, imports failed to regain momentum.

In value terms, plastic container imports skyrocketed to $X in 2021. Total imports indicated prominent growth from 2012 to 2021: its value increased at an average annual rate of +5.7% over the last nine-year period. The trend pattern, however, indicated some noticeable fluctuations being recorded throughout the analyzed period. Based on 2021 figures, imports increased by +94.7% against 2015 indices. The most prominent rate of growth was recorded in 2017 with an increase of 27%. Over the period under review, imports attained the peak figure in 2021 and are likely to continue growth in years to come.

Russia represented the major importing country with an import of about X tons, which amounted to 48% of total imports. Kazakhstan (X tons) took the second position in the ranking, distantly followed by Belarus (X tons) and Kyrgyzstan (X tons). All these countries together took near 43% share of total imports. Moldova (X tons) took a little share of total imports.

From 2012 to 2021, the biggest increases were recorded for Kyrgyzstan (with a CAGR of +35.2%), while purchases for the other leaders experienced more modest paces of growth.

In value terms, Russia ($X) constitutes the largest market for imported plastic containers in the CIS, comprising 54% of total imports. The second position in the ranking was held by Kazakhstan ($X), with a 20% share of total imports. It was followed by Belarus, with a 16% share.

From 2012 to 2021, the average annual rate of growth in terms of value in Russia totaled +2.7%. The remaining importing countries recorded the following average annual rates of imports growth: Kazakhstan (+14.6% per year) and Belarus (+5.3% per year).
